Development of Metallic Materials with Extremely High Corrosion Resistance

2003/01/31

Ni-Nb-Ti-Zr system metallic glasses with strength 7 times higher than that of stainless steels and corrosion resistance 1000 times higher than that of stainless steels in hydrochloric acid were developed by using rapid solidification technique. The glassy alloys can be fabricated in a sheet form and the application as a separator material for solid polymer fuel cells can be expected. The result was reported in the newspaper of the Asahi Shimbun on January 14, 2003.
