The project has been organized in cooperation among the research groups at three Institutes: Institute for Materials Research (IMR), Tohoku University; Joining and Welding Research Institute (JWRI), Osaka University; and Materials and Structure Laboratory (MSL), Tokyo Institute of Technology. The project started in April 2005, and will be continued for next 5 years.
The aim of this project is to create new functional materials such as metallic glasses and ceramics, as well as to develop their welding technology to produce hybrid materials. Concretely, IMR and MSL research groups will cooperate through JWRI research group, and proceed in the development of new hybrid materials by joining and bonding of glassy and ceramic materials. JWRI research group will provide information on the materials characteristics related to joining technology to IMR and MSL, and will proceed in the development of the advanced joining technology by synchronizing its research activities with the development of new materials by IMR and MSL. A new field of materials science will be established by the cooperation among the IMR, MSL and JWRI research groups. The practical use of these advanced material will be accelerated.
