New Mg-based alloys with high specific strength and excellent workability were synthesized. The alloys comprise 97at% magnesium, 1at% zinc and 2at% yttrium. The future application is expected in many fields such as automobile, aircraft and so on, in which both lightweight and high-strength are requested. The achievement has been reported by newspapers of Asahi, Yomiuri, Japan Business News etc. on February 3rd.
