Development of Biocompatible Shape Memory Ti Alloys


  New biocompatibile Ti alloys exhibiting shape memory or superelasticity were developed. These alloys are composed of non-cytotoxic elements Ti, Nb and Sn and their typical compositions are Ti-(16-18)at%Nb-(4-5)at%Sn. Applications to catheter, stent, orthodontic archwire and so on are expected for the alloys. The result was reported in newspapers Asahi, Yomiuri, Mainichi, Sankei, Nikkei, Kahoku-Shimpo etc. on October 19.
