TOCALO Co., Ltd. and Division of Nuclear Materials Engineering (Professor Hiroaki ABE) at Institute for Materials Research, Tohoku University developed the thermal spray technology to synthesize high-density tungsten coating which is superior in radiation shielding by 40% than the conventional metallic lead. The coating technology is applicable to complex structure, and the chemically stability allows the long-term use like containers and facilities for nuclear waste disposals.
